Fairfax Cemetery

A couple of weeks ago, I grabbed the Fuji X100f and headed out for a walk to the Fairfax Cemetery. I’ve walked through the cemetery a couple of times before, but this trip was solely for photographic purposes. It prolly wasn’t the ideal day for photography as it was very bright and sunny that day. I’m fond of dark, contrasty imagery, and that can be a challenge in the bright sunlight. Oh well. The cemetery is about a mile away on the other side of the Fairfax Courthouse. An interesting factoid about the Fairfax Courthouse is this is where the infamous Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial was conducted. Don’t ask me…

Final Photographic Post for 2021

This is not a New Year “summary” as we did that back a couple of months ago…. On New Years Day actually. This is the last set of pictures from the archive of 2021. Meghan and Jourdan came to the house on New Years Eve, and we decided to walk into old town Fairfax for a bite of lunch. So the trusty Fuji X100f came along for the ride (walk). We strolled up Chain Bridge and then turned on Main St. headed North-ish. The Havabite Eatery was right there, so we stopped in for a bite. Can’t give strong recommendations. Basically just frozen food prepared okay. Anyway, after lunch we…

Chattanooga, Part Deux…

To preface the post, I’m struggling a bit with inserting photos into WordPress. For some reason, most (but not all) of the time, they are imported/inserted in an ascending sequence order vice the descending sequence order. For last time’s post, I went and manually typed in the correct order in the WordPress Code editor, but to be honest it’s absurd that this is necessary. I’ve had a plea for help on this topic on the WP forum site for some 5 months and only yesterday did someone respond. I was reminded that this was “Free” software, but the poster asked for installation details and such. Hopefully that means an easy…

Old Mill of Guilford

I’ve had the pleasure (?) of travelling back and forth to Greensboro, NC multiple times over the last couple of months for work. Greensboro is an interesting place, but that’s not what this post is about. Travelling down Highway 68 to get to the facility, I noticed an old mill in the booming metropolis of Oak Ridge, NC. On one particularly bright Sunday afternoon, I was able to escape early and visit the mill in hopes of grabbing some pictures. The Old Mill of Guilford was founded in 1767 and continues operation to this day. Most of the actually milling equipment has been updated or replaced to meet modern health…

Happy Fathers Day!

Good morning and Happy Father’s Day to all. Fatherhood has been an amazing thing. Long ago and far away, there was a quiet confidence that Fatherhood was simply not in the cards for me. Dunno why that conclusion was reached, but for many years it was so. Until, of course, it actually happened. Quite by accident, but when it was announced that Fatherhood was in my immediate future, it was met with a response of happiness and terror. The blessed event came and went, and my life as it was known, ceased to exist. And thank goodness for that. Having children in my life, now two of them, has been…

Winchester

Now that we are firmly settled in our Fairfax City townhouse, the next focus is deciding where our next, and hopefully last home will be. The one thing that we are “fairly” sure of is it won’t be in Northern Virginia. Too many reasons to go into here, but unless the home of our dreams at a price we could pay appears, it’s not going to happen. So, we have been driving around Virginia, doing the “Home Tour” as we call it. Last weekend was kind of an extreme version of that premise as almost 2 tankful’s of gas were consumed in our travels across the area. Friday had us…
