So this week saw us continuing the “repackaging” of the house prior to calling a realtor to list it for sale. We boxed up a bunch of stuff in the closets of the downstairs bedrooms, and moved a goodly number of the bins out of the closets to reduce the clutter.
One of the decisions made last weekend was to get rid of the album collection. There are 4 boxes of LP’s (Long Playing Recording) consisting of some 270+ albums that were boxed up in the clean up after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Yes, the last time these things saw the light of day was some 15+ years ago. Time flies.
Anyway, it was undecided what to do with them when an acquaintance told me that albums are a thing again and that they could probably be sold to a used record store. H’mmmm, Innerweb research identified “Right-On Records” in Herndon not too far from the house. Giving them a call indicated that yes, they would be interested in buying them. So, on Friday four boxes of LP’s, my Pioneer PL-115D turntable and a preamp/digitizer were transported to Right-On.
Upon arrival, the one thing noted is there is no parking anywhere near the place. Located in downtown Herndon, it’s an upstairs shop in a building that is right on the road, hence the name. Parking down the street, I went in and talked to the owner. He said there was a space in back in front of the dumpster that could be used to unload. Okay.
Moving the car into the space and with the hand truck brought from the house, we moved the boxes into the building. He indicated he would call me in a day or so after he had a chance to look at what was there.
We were in the middle of boxing up when the call came. He had looked through the boxes and only about 100 were in good enough condition to be resold. 75 of them were worth $1 each and 25 of them worth $3. The turntable was worth $25 for a total of $200. I told him I would think about it as this was appreciably less than what I was hoping for.
Clearly, there was an emotionally attachment to the things, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized, just let them go. I told Melanie that I was going to call the guy and accept the offer and she asks “do the kids want them?”. Highly doubtful was my reply. Well you should ask them…..
Ok. So, a text was sent out with the gist of the details indicating a yay or nay was needed as soon as possible. Both of them responded almost immediately with Yay. Who knew? So, I called up Right-On and gave him the happy news, saying I would be there in about 30 minutes to pick them up. Melanie came with me so we could just park in front of the dumpster and she would stay in the car. He was nice enough about it when I got in the store, but not a bit chatty which was unsurprising.
One the same front, the Fuji X-Pro1 and X-T1 digital cameras were listed for sale on a number of photo enthusiast websites. E-Bay was the first consideration, but with the escalation of fees both from them and Paypal, I decided to try other venues. Almost immediately I sold the X-T1, but the X-Pro1 has not sold yet. The X-T1 will get boxed up and shipped today.
When the X-Pro1 sells, I’ll flip the proceeds over to buy a Fuji X-T2. The X-Pro2 and the X-T2 where introduced within a year of each other. Researching, the controls and menus are virtually identical allowing me to develop muscle memory for them and not have to be looking for things when I’m out photographing.
As the X-Pro1 and the X-T1, the plan is to use the X-Pro2 primarily with fixed focus lenses. I’ve got the amazing Fujinon XF 35mm f1.4 , and an XF 18mm f2.0 which work very nicely on the rangefinder style camera.
The X-T2 will be paired with the zooms, at this juncture there are three:
- Fujinon XF10-24mmF4 R OIS
- Fujinon XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS
- Fujinon XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS
Primarily the 18-55 stays on the camera, but the others are never far away. I honestly don’t think there will be any more, but I would like to get a Fringer (or other manufacturer) Nikon to Fuji adapter so I could try out some old Nikon glass. Once a Nikonista, always a Nikonista I guess.

- Talking to traffic – Ongoing. It’s a struggle. What can I say?
- Obscenities’ – It’s tapering down. As it had gotten out of hand, this too will take effort.
