Blogus Interruptus

We haven’t talked much about this, but Melanie and I are building our retirement home in Williamsburg, VA. This has been ongoing seemingly forever at this juncture, but in actuality since December last year.

The house is nearing completion, so it’s come time to move again.

Ish….

The house is NOT complete and/or ready for occupancy. Prolly won’t be for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately we have to be out of the townhouse that we rented some 2 1/2 years ago by months end. The contactor has agreed that our “worldly goods” can be placed in the house, but he will not have a Certificate of Occupancy. We can’t legally live there, but could in a pinch if we weren’t too obvious about it. At the end of the day, we would really rather not be living there as they finish the house. Another complicating factor is the gas has yet to be installed (TBD) so we would be taking cold showers. We’ve done that before, but were much younger. Not gonna happen nowadays.

Another complication is we can’t drive on the driveway for 2 1/2 weeks. So, other plans are required.

The movers will be here on Friday to load the trucks. Once loaded, they will overnight at the movers and then head down to Williamsburg on Saturday.

We will wrap up Friday, pack everything in the cars that can be and head down Friday night. We have a room booked at the Hampton Inn, and on Saturday morning we will meet the movers at the house.

We’ll get everything unloaded, and hopefully locked, and head back to NOVA Saturday night. At this juncture we’re going to bunking with my daughter in Springfield. I suspect it’s gonna be 2-3 weeks. Yay.

Adding to the fun, we had booked tickets to Cirque du Soleil on September 24th. So we would have had to come back anyway. All the more fun.

The week after, we have a couple of days of turn over activities at the house, so that should keep us pretty busy.

So all this yapping is saying the blog might become (?) a bit more erratic. I know all three of you who read this will be heartbroken, but my apologies.

Take care,
