Whew

That was interesting. Lots of malformed stuff inserted over the years. Photos, text, you name it.

Hopefully now, it’s a bit better behaved than before.

The WordPress importer for Bludit errors out when there isn’t a featured image in a post. So a goodly amount of time was spent inserting those. Firstly from the image library already uploaded, to an AI do-hicky provided as a “trial” by JetPack (one of the WP add-ins) to finally an entity called “Pexels Free Photos”.

The AI trial was kinda cute, but it only gave you 10 “requests” most of which I used up on one image. I’m definitely still getting my head around how AI works. I used ChatCPT to convert some recipes I had in an HTML format to one that could be imported to Mealie. The free version of ChatGPT would only allow me to convert 3 files a day, so this was going to be a prolonged effort as I’ve got > 150 recipes. After about a week, it asks me if I want to bulk convert more recipes. Of course, I said yes, but yet again the free version was extremely limited. So I asked it to create a Python routine to convert them, which it happily did.

I’ve not done any Python-ing in a bit, and the latest update in which Python requires a virtual environment to run kinda caught me off guard. Even, the Linux version of Thonny (a Python IDE) was inop. I tried it on my Windows box, though, and it worked fine.

The routine worked pretty well, except for those recipes with two preparation sequences, like for a marinade and then a final prep. Luckily there were only a couple of those, so it wasn’t a major issue.

Anywho, once I used up my AI freebies, I tried the Pexels thing, and it worked out pretty well. It’s got a box that you provide a descriptive, and it returns a list of images that it thinks meet you’re descriptive. For instance, for this post I told it “AI” and the featured image was one of the suggestions.

So, we’re making progress. The modification to add whitespace between paragraphs is only 3 lines of CSS, so I’ve reinserted it to make the posting a little easier to read. It’s easy enough to remove before I export the posts to the other blogging tools.

In thinking about all this stuff, one of the reasons the blog has fallen by the wayside is I’ve been neck deep in a BUNCH of stuff other than photography. Looking back, it wouldn’t hurt my head to document some of this, so moving forward I’m going to use this more as a journal of my most excellent retirement life.

Howze about ‘dat?

Take care
