Manassas National Battlefield

Precursor: Some time back, I stumbled across a “final post” on a blog I had never before heard of; Leicaphilia. I don’t consider myself to be a particular Leicaphile, but this final post was quite poignant. The blogger, who was a dedicated Leicaphile, had been fighting stomach cancer for some time. He had just been sent home from his latest visit to the hospital to die. Doctors gave him a week, maybe two to live. So he posted a farewell to all the friends he had made worldwide via his blogging about Leica’s and film photography. Only. he didn’t. This was several months ago and Tim is still with us….

Williamsburg and a Cruise on the Elizabeth River

For my 65th birthday, the two main ladies in my life, Melanie and Meghan, decided we were going to spend the weekend in Williamsburg. As you may, or may not, know Melanie and I are building a house in Williamsburg, so this would be a great opportunity to explore some more and just get to know the area. They decided to book rooms at the Marriot Manor Club at Ford’s Colony, which is literally 2 blocks away from where the new house will be. One of the things I did in advance was book a ride on the Victory Rover Naval Base Cruises for Saturday morning. So, per our usual…

Labor Day Car Show in Fairfax

One of the pleasantries of living in the small college town of Fairfax, Virginia are the myriad of social events put on either by the city or GMU throughout the year. There is always something to see and do and it’s been areal treat being able to participate just by walking, no worries about parking and such. This time around we’re visiting the annual Fairfax Labor Day Car show. I had had the opportunity to attend last year, so I was looking forward to this year’s presentation. The show has been presented for the last 23 years and is very well organized. If there wasa fault this year, there were…

Traipsin’ around Bull Run

Last time I promised to delve into our current home development process. Sitting here thinking about it, I’ve decided to push that out a bit. Dunno why. Anyway, in late August, Jourdan and Stefani came up to Fairfax for a visit. Meghan came over and after a lunch at Mama Tigre, we headed out to Bull Run to have a look see. Pulling up into the car park there were plenty of cars, but we easily found a parking space. We were curious why the crowds, but were soon to discover. Entering into the park, the beautiful fields of wildflowers greeted us warmly. Crossing this bridge, we then discovered why…

Fairfax 4th of July Parade

Before we start today’s discussion, I want to highlight that I’m experimenting a bit with the blog layout. I want it to be a little more user friendly, so I switched the side menu/selection do-hicky on allowing for you, the kind reader to be able to more easily navigate what is getting to be an appreciable number of blog postings. I’m also going to add a “featured image” to bring some interest to the page. As we have discussed, Melanie and I are currently living in the City of Fairfax in Fairfax County in Virginia. We sold our home in Reston in 2021 in anticipation of our retirement home. The…

Spetsas

Today’s post will wrap up the Great Greek Tour of 2022. Much “greater” than expected, but I’m glad I went, and am wiser as a result. So there you go. I’m pretty certain Pam got tired of seeing me moping around like a dog without a home. So she proposed a trip to the Greek island of Spetsas. Available via a short ferry ride, it was a nice place off season. She indicated that during the “tourist” season Spetsas is very busy, very crowded and far less pleasurable to visit. We were there for most of the day and I took a lot of pictures on Spetsas. It’s very scenic….
