Chattanooga, Part Deux…

To preface the post, I’m struggling a bit with inserting photos into WordPress. For some reason, most (but not all) of the time, they are imported/inserted in an ascending sequence order vice the descending sequence order. For last time’s post, I went and manually typed in the correct order in the WordPress Code editor, but to be honest it’s absurd that this is necessary. I’ve had a plea for help on this topic on the WP forum site for some 5 months and only yesterday did someone respond. I was reminded that this was “Free” software, but the poster asked for installation details and such. Hopefully that means an easy…

Chattanooga, Part 1

Before we get started, a couple of amendments to the last post. In addition to the Fuji X-T2 and triumvirate of lenses discussed last time, I had also packed the Fuji X-Pro2 with the XF35mm f1.4, and a XF18mm f2.0 in the bag: With that out of the way, we can continue our birthday present tale; After arriving at the Chattnoogan, we crashed into the room, fell into bed and had a very sound sleep. In the morning after waking around 9, I called the front desk to see what time breakfast was served. Breakfast was served until 10, so after the obligatory morning yoga practice, I headed down to…

My birthday present

Get yourself a hot beverage as this is going to be a bit long. As has been mentioned, I spent several weeks in Greensboro, NC at one of our contractor facilities in September. It was most of September actually. So when I got back home on the 17th I threw a curve ball at Melanie. What about I take off next week and we drive the new car down to Chattanooga via Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway as a Birthday expedition? To remind you, this is the new (to us) car: As we discussed earlier, I had gotten a wild hair and bought Scarlett in August. Oh course…

Old Mill of Guilford

I’ve had the pleasure (?) of travelling back and forth to Greensboro, NC multiple times over the last couple of months for work. Greensboro is an interesting place, but that’s not what this post is about. Travelling down Highway 68 to get to the facility, I noticed an old mill in the booming metropolis of Oak Ridge, NC. On one particularly bright Sunday afternoon, I was able to escape early and visit the mill in hopes of grabbing some pictures. The Old Mill of Guilford was founded in 1767 and continues operation to this day. Most of the actually milling equipment has been updated or replaced to meet modern health…

Labor Day Car Show in Fairfax

As previously mentioned, we live in Fairfax City proper, having rented a townhouse back in March. Fairfax is an interesting little city with a lot of history, and being a college town, with a lot of things going on. Traditionally on Labor Day, University Drive is blocked off from Main Street to Armstrong and a car show hosted. Like many things during the pandemic, the show was cancelled in 2020, but caution was thrown to the wind for 2021 and the show was held. Grabbing the Fuji X-T2, I headed out to see what I could see. Walking down University, I was absolutely amazed by the sea of shining custom…

Williamsburg

So we got a wild hair and decided to go to Williamsburg for two reasons; our 40th anniversary; and to get more familiar with the area. We booked a room at the Williamsburg Whitehouse, loaded up the car and hit the road. Instead of the dreaded I-95, we decided to take the local route and drive Highway 1 down to Williamsburg. It’s a bit out of the way and definitely a longer drive, but it’s decidedly less stressful than I-95 to I-64. We arrived in the afternoon, checked into the hotel, and then headed to Food for Thought for dinner. The restaurant business is Williamsburg is struggling a bit with…
