Catching up

There hasn’t been a photo related entry here since July. Sorry about that.

So, lets try and catch up a bit, shall we?

Back in July, Jourdan and Stefani were finally able to visit up here in Northern Virginia. We had not seen them since the pandemic descended upon us, so it was quite a treat to pick them up at the airport.

Unfortunately, their flight departure was pushed back a week as one of Stefani’s co-workers was diagnosed with Covid and she was tagged as being in close contact. Luckily it was all for naught, but the delay caused their trip to overlap with a planned 40th anniversary ceremony (more about that in a later post) that Melanie and I had planned. The various schedules were rearranged, and we got to spend several lovely days with them.

We were able to book a cruise to Georgetown for all six of us. Departing from the wharf in Alexandria, the boat cruised upriver on the Potomac, dropped us off at “The Wharf” in Georgetown, and picked us up 2 hours later for the return trip to Alexandria.

The trusty Fuji X-T2 with the triumvirate of lenses accompanied us on the trip. This is a photo blog, right? It was a very bright and sunny day, so there isn’t a lot of drama in the photos, but they aren’t too bad.

Parking the car and heading for the dock we met Meghan and Rob on the way. Once on the boat, we had a few minutes to look around before the crew cast off.

Once away from the dock, the boat headed up the Potomac and we were treated to the sights of Washington DC.

Disembarking at the Harbor we began a nice stroll around Georgetown. Meghan obviously knows the area well, so we all just followed her!

We headed up the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath which is a fascinating waterway rich with history in the development of the area. Once a bustling corridor for local commerce, the 165+ miles of the canal are now mostly parks and trails. Great fun to explore and very photogenic.

Getting back to the harbor to meet our boat, a wedding procession was in progress. We tried to stay out the way!

By this point we were all a bit knackered, so we embarked on our vessel and enjoyed the leisurely trip back to Alexandria.

We met at the Fish Market Restaurant for a hearty post cruise dinner and headed home.

The goal is to catch up with all the photo events for the year before years end. That was we’ll be able to start the New Year out fresh and new!

take care!
