Whenever Tim and Terry come to visit, it’s always a blur of activity, and this visit was no different. Thanks to their visits, we’ve seen a lot of attractions in the area.
And the topic of today is officially the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum
The Folk Art Museum is a charming facility that is part of Colonial Williamsburg (CW). When we visited in June of 2024, there was still an admission fee to enter, but that was eliminated last year. Many of the fees associated with CW have been either reduced or eliminated, as in this case. There is a lot of chatter as to the why’s, but this is not the place to have those discussions.
The camera of choice for this foray is the Fuji X-Pro2 with the indubitable Fuji XF-35mm f1.4.

It’s funny, due to the current X-100 TikTok craze, interest in all the Fuji Optical Viewfinder Cameras (OVF) has exploded, the X-Pro2 included. This camera was purchased new old stock (NOS) from Best Buy about 4 years ago on the cheap. Now they are selling used for more than I paid for this one. Crazy.
In 2022, when we were packing up to depart Meghan’s house to move into the house in Williamsburg, I was loading the car up with a variety of stuff. I had two camera bags, one with the X-T2 and associated lenses and one with the X-Pro2 with it’s associated lenses. I put the X-T2 in the car and sat the X-Pro2 outside the car…..
Yep, completely forgot it was there in the hysteria, and as I’m backing out I hear this noise. Stopping the car, the camera bag is literally under the wheel of the car…. Pulling forward, the bag is a mess. The lens has been physically torn in half, but through sheer providence, other than a small wrinkle in the outer cover, the X-Pro2 is ok. I put the XF18mm f2.0 lens on, and it worked just fine. So, everything went back in the now destroyed bag, and off we went. Doh….
Luckily I was able to get another XF35mm f1.4 from my favorite E-Bay seller, Map Camera out of Tokyo. While their prices are higher than a lot, the service they provide is exemplary, and I have no idea how they get shipments halfway around the world in 3 days.
So, the X-Pro came with us that day. The exif data from the images tells me the XF35mm f1.4 was mounted.
There aren’t a ton of images in this particular collection, but as is the norm, the full collection is here: 2024 Williamsburg Folk Art Museum.

A lot of the exhibits display period furniture. Amusingly, there are a lot of Antique stores in the Williamsburg area with similar furniture items for sale. Like a lot of rural areas, antique furniture vendors scour the area in search of items to sell.

There were a lot of these wooden “figurines” for some reason.

There was a small replica of a Merry Go Round, with a number of interesting “seats” like this one.

And like the wooden figurines, metallic statues like this one were seen throughout the facility.

And so we departed.
Excuse the less than verbose text here. Unfortunately, this event was over a year ago and frankly, and that penguin has slipped off the iceberg if you will.
Looking back in the archives, it’s clear that the sequence of events in presenting these vignettes has been well and truly mangled. So thinking is needed about the sequence henceforth. Reordering posts makes little sense, and trying to follow some chronological order now seems to make little sense.
Looking back, the photo archive now is some 25 years in depth. As you may, or may not, know, Google Albums have been built for all the folders of images collected over the years. If you send me a message, I’ll send you a link with the page. At last count, there were 830 albums. Whew. That provides a lot of options for presentation here in the future.
So, I need to think about a process of choosing the next post. If you, dear reader, have any thoughts, send me a message, and I’ll postulate on it.
Until next time,
