This entry is posted from the new Theme, Graphy. Wha-hoo. It’s been interesting.
Went ahead and paid for a copy of Graphy-Pro and Filebird Pro for use on the new site.
Graphy was a bit of a surprise as it hasn’t been updated in a couple of years, but seems to be actively maintained. It does what I want, so for now we are good to go. I’ve been noodling through the settings, and I’m just about done tweaking. The final setting is to only have a brief (couple of lines) snippet of a post on the front page, with the remainder showing when the post is opened.
Filebird Pro was bizarre. Previously, I was using FileBird Lite, but wanted to get the full-blown version for the extra capability. This is what we used to call cripple-ware in the “good old days”. Clicking on the link brought up all kinds of gloom and doom warnings from my Browsers (I tried more than one), and clicking on the “go ahead” link brought up a page that said, “The link you clicked on requires cookies to be enabled in your browser. We apologize for any inconvenience” and would go no farther. Again, tried on several browsers.
So, I sent a request to the NinjaTeam, who is the developer, about it and “Alina” sent me back a link to buy it.
Only she didn’t. She sent a link to Filebird Document Manager, which is an add-in to Filebird. After a bunch of gyrations, I sent them another message, and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing we got to the root of the problem. So I had to request a refund, and then buy the “core” product.
The amusing part of all this is, I had gone through this exact process about 2 years ago. The products are named so similarly that it’s easy to make this mistake. But anyway, it’s done and done.
In parallel with all this, I stood up an instance of WordPress via Portainer on one of the HP EliteDesk mini-pc’s I bought a while back. It’s all set up, and I will use it as a test site to make certain I don’t break anything here. The challenge is getting a copy of everything that is here over to that machine. There are a number of plugins to do this, but they are all paid and none are inexpensive. It’s not something I can justify right now. So the challenge tomorrow will be a manual copy. I’ve got some references, so, who knows.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Hopefully I’ll get the remainder of the settings configured, and then we can get back to posting and talking about imagery.
Take care,
